Listen: Layton Giordani Debuts on Drumcode with “Good Violence” Ahead of Album

02.02.2017

Drumcode has provided techno fans with a new artist to follow in 2017. The label founded by Swedish DJ and producer Adam Beyer towers over every other techno imprint when it comes to worldwide distribution, and Layton Giordani‘s “Good Violence” is their most recent export.

The murky, filtered bass and hollow percussive elements in “Good Violence” will likely sound cliché to more discerning techno enthusiasts, though. A generic synth lead eventually layers in, accompanied soon after by a club-friendly female vocal refrain meant to bolster the single’s mass appeal even further.

Drumcode has become something of a dirty word among techno purists. By releasing more accessible songs from the likes of Joseph Capriati and Nicole Moudaber, the label arguably undermines the challenging counterculture aesthetic at the genre’s core. While a certain amount of such harsh criticism may be undue, “Good Violence” is not the sort of track that will win techno elitists over.

Layton Giordani’s “Good Violence” is but one of 12 tracks comprising his upcoming debut album – so he does at least stand a chance of redeeming himself. The effort will be titled Where It Begins and will arrive by way of Drumcode on February 27th.
